Key Concepts for In Control:
- Our curriculum is 100% in accordance with the Catechism of the Catholic Church
- Virtue is a habit and attitude to do the good
- Chastity is a virtue and is God’s plan for our sexuality
- Chastity has six key principles:
- Love is doing what is best for the other person
Sixth Grade Curriculum (3-day program)
We do NOT discuss the details of sexual intercourse
Key topics:
- Virtues are difficult and require good habits
- Chastity is a virtue
- Present the 6 principles of chastity (listed above)
- Delayed gratification vs. instant gratification skit activity
- Delayed gratification ( the ability to postpone getting the thing you want in favor of a greater and later reward) is better and more fulfilling than instant gratification (the temptation to give up a future benefit in order to obtain a less rewarding but more immediate benefit.)
- Sharing the gift of sex before marriage often results in STIs: parasitic, bacterial, and viral
- Choose friends who will encourage you to pursue your value to practice all
virtues.
Seventh Grade Curriculum (5-day program)
Define and Review the virtue of chastity and the six principles of chastity
Chastity:
- Chastity is practicing God’s plan for how we live as male and female in relationships.
- Abstinence is important to chastity, but it is only one aspect of the virtue. Since chastity is a virtue that means it is for every person at every stage of life.
- Abstinence is important as we discover the vocation God has planned for us
- Marriage: Free, Total, Faithful, Fruitful
- Why sex is meant to be within marriage
- Priesthood: Celibacy & Sacrifice of self for Church
- Religious/Consecrated: Celibacy & Sacrifice of self to Christ/prayer as symbol of eternal life
- Differences between Infatuation, Love, & Use
Pro-Life:
- Baby development presentation
- Story of “Precious Feet” (photo of 10wk baby feet)
- Fetus models
- Every life has dignity and ought to be protected
STI Awareness:
- Review parasitic, bacterial, and viral STIs
- STIs do not make anyone gross or bad
Safe Media:
- Distinguish between love versus use in popular media
- Know what to do if you come across explicit material online
Open Q & A session:
- Students have the option to ask questions anonymously
Eighth Grade Curriculum (5-day program)
Define and Review the virtue of chastity and the six principles of chastity
Dignity of the Human Person/True Meaning of Love:
- Immortality of the person
- “Love is an act of the will that consists of preferring, in a constant manner, the good of others to the good of oneself.” – Karol Wojtyla Love & Responsibility
- Why chastity is necessary to truly love
- God’s mercy is greater than any sin. No matter what anyone has done before, anyone can start practicing virtue and chastity today.
STI Awareness:
- Review bacterial, viral, and parasitic STDs
- STDs can be spread through any type of sexual activity
Pro-Life:
- Review baby development
- Abortion violates the most basic human rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
- All human life has dignity
- How to change the culture with love and truth rather than anger and violence
- How to be pro-life not just anti-abortion
Dating:
- Dating License Bureau Homework Assignment
- Your parents give you rules and expectations because they love you
- Students will receive the dating rules homework which is to be completed and signed by parents
- Many teens don’t understand the purpose of dating. This activity cuts through the confusion and allows students to understand boyfriend/girlfriend relationships are oriented toward marriage.
- Set physical boundaries that guard the purity of your heart and mind and the person you’re dating
Safe Media:
- How to discern what you consume on the media using St. Ignatius of Loyola’s ‘Discernment of Spirits’
- There’s nothing wrong with giving up social media but it’s not required
- Blessed Carlo Acutis example of how to use media
- Quick Tips to discern:
- Does it promote mortal sin?
- How does what you’re consuming affect your relationships/self-image?
- Does it leave peace, steadiness, eagerness toward life or excitement, dryness, sadness, anxiety?
- Tell your parents if you encounter anything bad online
High School Curriculum (5-day program)
Define and Review the virtue of chastity and the six principles of chastity
Chastity:
- Authentic love can be tough to spot. We examine real-life scenarios to help teens identify real love.
- Answer questions like “What are the characteristics of love?” and “What does it mean to use someone?”
- The Trinity is the perfect exemplar of love: each person of the Trinity perfectly loves each other person
Safe Media:
- Compares love and use in the media, and examines how media affects our view of love
Pornography:
- Pornography hurts you as an individual, your relationships, and society as a whole
- Pornography creates unrealistic expectations of sex
- Pornography distorts a person’s ability to love
- Pornography is closely related to sex trafficking
- Practical strategies to overcome the burden of pornography
Abortion:
- “The Only Real Choice is an Educated Choice”
- A pro-life presentation about the options in an unplanned pregnancy: parenting, adoption and abortion. This presentation highlights the difficulties of all three.
- Highlight the laws surrounding abortion
- Some contraceptives can act as abortifacients
- Non-graphic description of various abortion procedures (RU-486, D&E surgical abortions, &c.)

- Students have the option to ask any question anonymously
